What do to when someone finds you

Here are some tips to follow if someone spots you while you are spying.

  1. Keep still. They might not be looking at you, but in your direction. The human brain registers movement first.
  2. Don't run away screaming. This will just draw more attention.
  3. If it's part of the plan for that certain person to find you, do the above step if you are supposed to lead them away immediately so that your fellow teammates can proceed in the mission.
  4. If all else fails, jump out and say BOO!

Additional tips...

  • When hiding behind a curtain or somewhere a sillouette or shadow may be made, crouch down and bend into an irregular shape. The brain registers the human body's shape almost as fast as it detects movement.
  • Do not make noise unless you are instructed to do so.
  • Rehearse your movements, otherwise you may screw up the entire mission.
  • If you are instructed to use a telescope or binoculars, do not poke them straight through the curtain or whatever you're hiding behind. Find an irregular way to look around without being seen.
  • If your walkie talkie goes off while you are hiding, turn it down. Then if he or she turns his back, as subtley as possible, slide it or toss it onto something that won't thud when the talkie lands. You will less likely be caught if the noise comes from where you aren't.
  • If he or she does not turn his back, and walks towards your hiding place, DON'T MOVE. If he looks behind the curtain, say "Hi. I think something moved in your closet so I came to make sure it wasn't a spy." Grab your talkie and leave the scene.
